Mary

This is a recording of the play “Mary,” which Michael wrote, directed, produced, and co-starred in. It was an official selection of the 2022 Tampa Bay Theater Festival.

“Mary” is a satirical look at the intersection of religion and familial relationships, especially the bonds between mother and daughter. The play focuses on a young college student, Mary, who accidentally becomes pregnant after a brief relationship which ends badly. When her religious zealot mother finds out, Mary tells her mom that the pregnancy is a virgin birth, which causes her mother to alert the national media, setting off a chain of events that spirals out of control from both of them in rapid succession, all while forcing them to re-evaluate the very foundation of their relationship.
